About Me

I'm Za'yaanah Albertyn, a passionate artist and digital creator with a journey deeply rooted in academic exploration and real-world artistic endeavors. Armed with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Honours, and a Master's in Digital Arts from the University of the Witwatersrand, my academic path has been a canvas for honing my skills in the captivating realms of game design and animation.

My artistic palette is as diverse as my academic pursuits. I find joy in every avenue of creation, whether it's the delicate strokes of watercolor, the precision of figurine painting, the tactile satisfaction of sculpting, or the intricacies of 3D modeling. While my artistic endeavors span a multitude of mediums, my true forte lies in designing games and crafting compelling graphic designs.

With a rich five-year history as a freelancer, I've had the privilege of collaborating with esteemed clients such as Discovery and First Rand. These experiences have not only refined my technical skills but have also added a layer of real-world pragmatism to my artistic vision.

In my creative laboratory, I thrive on experimentation, pushing the boundaries of traditional art and embracing the cutting edge of innovative design. From the avant-garde to the timeless allure of black classic print styles, my work is a fusion of the contemporary and the timeless.

Here's to the beauty of creation and the endless possibilities it holds.

Education

2018-2021

Bachelor of Arts in Digital Arts
University of the Witwatersrand

I majored in Animation, Gamification, and Game Design during my academic journey at the University of the Witwatersrand. This comprehensive program equipped me with a versatile skill set, including proficiency in 3D modeling, 2D and 3D animation, and mastery of tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Unity, Photoshop, and Twine.

Securing a bursary, I pursued my Master's degree, delving deeper into the realms of digital arts and expanding my expertise in creating immersive and engaging gaming experiences. This academic pursuit not only honed my technical skills but also fueled my passion for pushing creative boundaries.

2022-2023

Masters Degree  by Research in Digital Arts

University of the Witwatersrand

I earned my Master's degree through a research-intensive journey that delved into the visual representation of Arab Muslim people and themes in Disney's Aladdin (1992), scrutinizing the lens of Orientalism. This critical exploration laid the foundation for a groundbreaking project—a progressive retelling of the narrative through an artbook.

My research not only deepened my understanding of visual storytelling and cultural representation but also allowed me to contribute to the discourse by reimagining a classic narrative through a more inclusive and nuanced lens.
